Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Spirit and Unity!
Join the Annual Community Marchand honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a celebration of diversity and inclusion! This event, highlighted by the Austin Area Heritage Council, promises a heartfelt and thoughtful experience. On Monday, January 20, 2025, the festivities kick off at 9:30 a.m. on the south steps of the Texas State Capitol.
Then, participate in the inspiring march from the Martin Luther King Jr. statue on the University of Texas campus to the historic Huston-Tillotson University. This march is open to everyone—businesses, non-profits, and individuals alike—so grab your friends and family and march for a cause that unites us all!
The celebration continues at Huston-Tillotson University, where the MLK Festival will be in full swing, featuring a vibrant array of local vendors and fantastic musical acts to keep the festive spirit alive!

Dive into a night of laughter at Esther's Follies, Austin's comedy gem that's been dazzling audiences for over 40 years with its mix of political satire, comedy sketches, and dazzling musical numbers. If you’re up for something fresh, head over to Fallout Theater for a blend of sketch, stand-up, and improv comedy presented by both budding and seasoned comedians.
And don’t miss out on big-name acts at the historic Paramount Theatre—a century-old venue that’s at the heart of Austin’s vibrant arts scene!
Take A Hike!
Get your adventure hat on and explore the great outdoors! The Barton Creek Greenbelt is calling with its stunning 13 miles of trails, leading you through lush forests, past picturesque Sculpture and Twin Falls, perfect for climbing.
Or, take a leisurely stroll along the 10-mile Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail, where you can admire the shimmering waters of Lady Bird Lake and the breathtaking skyline of Austin.
For a quieter escape, check out St. Edward's Greenbelt or the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, where you can wander through serene trails—just remember to reserve your spot on busy weekends!
Go Climb a Rock!
Feeling adventurous? Why not go indoor climbing and shake off the winter blues? Austin Bouldering Project is the world’s largest bouldering gym, offering you 50,000 square feet of climbing fun with 250 rotating configurations! If that sounds like your style, make your way to Crux Climbing Center, where climbers of all levels can find their challenge. For a mix of climbing and fitness, head to Mesa Rim Austin, which also offers yoga classes to stretch out after those climbs.

Make it a Date at the Drive-In
Take your loved one on a movie date at an Austin-area drive-in. Blue Starlite Urban Drive-in showcases double features of indie films, cult classics and childhood favorites on the big screen.
Just south of the city limits, Doc's Drive In Theatre presents films under the Texas sky with a bar and expansive menu of food and concessions, including house-made brisket.
