Earlier this month we shared our initial list of things we are thankful for in Austin, Texas. And as there are so many things to be grateful for, we are continuing our list for you below.

On behalf of our entire staff at Le Montreaux apartments in North Austin, we encourage you to experience all that makes your life happy and healthy … and wish you a very memorable Thanksgiving.

Beautifully Maintained Parks

Throughout Austin, we are so fortunate to have so many parks to enjoy the great outdoors in Austin. Right now, the weather couldn’t be better to pack a picnic and plan a stroll, bike ride or hike through our region’s expansive list of Parks.

We are always impressed at the meticulously cared for recreation areas that the Austin Parks and Recreation Department continues to maintain on our behalf.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department has been the steward of the City of Austin’s public lands since 1928. As such, they protect and maintain parkland and our urban forest. They preserve trails, and offer a variety of sports, recreation, educational enrichment, arts programs, cultural opportunities, nature and aquatic activities.

Arts & Culture

If you are fond of art and culture, you really don’t need to drive too far to soak in the splendid arts and culture scene in Austin. There seems to be an art gallery around every corner and our impressive list of museums is enviable by every standard. Two of our favorites are the Bullock Texas State History Museum and the Blanton Museum of Art.

We are so well known and appreciated for our art scene that the city is home to the Texas Film Awards and Texas Book Festival.

You can explore a variety of eclectic art and cultural experiences in Austin all year round by clicking into VisitAustin.com now.

Lucky for locals and visitors alike, Austin is a family-filled playground, year-round. So much so that we have dedicated many of our Blogs to the lifestyle that awaits you and yours throughout our colorful seasons. Here are highlights of the adventures that we’re thankful for … and enjoy every year!

While we wait for winter’s full effects to appear throughout the great state of Texas, it’s a perfect time to slow down and share our thanks to all our neighbors at Le Montreaux apartment community.

We are also thankful for the endless benefits that come with living a full life at Le Montreaux. During this seasonal transition, it also provides the ideal time to share the things we are thankful for in Austin, Texas.

From our home to yours, we welcome every opportunity to help you enjoy all the treasures that we have enjoyed while raising our own families right here at ho me.

May you find your own treasures to add to this list.

A Welcoming Culture

Although the population centers of Austin continue to grow, we continue to keep our minds open to welcome all of those who seek all the benefits of living and working in Austin. Curious to know what others thought about our bourgeoning town, we found this article on TrueYou.com. In their poll of state personalities, we came in within the top five for our ‘openess and welcoming’ spirit. Here’s how they describe it:

Openness describes a person’s tendency to think in abstract, complex ways. High scorers tend to be creative, adventurous and intellectual. They enjoy playing with ideas and discovering novel experiences. Low scorers tend to be practical, conventional and focused on the concrete. They tend to avoid the unknown and follow tradition.

Live Music Capital of the World, Really!

Due to the amazing collection of live outdoor venues in Austin, our city overflows with music of every genre every month! Our city is so favored for our music scene that we annually host the Austin City Limits Music Festival and South by Southwest, which are attended and appreciated by music fans from across the globe.

We continually offer concerts that draw some of the finest musicians in the USA, with concerts hosted at Antone’s Nightclub, Saxon Pub, and the Continental Club, to name just a few of the many.

Throughout the year, we often post about upcoming music events in Austin. Here are a few links to showcase some of Austin’s top summer events and festivals; many of which occur year after year.

Earlier this month we highlighted events throughout our city that are celebrating monumental moments in African American history and people who have made a difference throughout Austin over the years. As there are so many events underway, we decided to continue to share them with you.
We encourage you to get out to support these events created to share some of the City’s history with your family and friends.

Celebrate Black Austin
Kenny Dorham’s Backyard

This event is focused on the opportunity to learn all about Austin’s rich black history through a walking tour of East Austin.  The walk will highlight historical landmarks and street art that amplifies stories of significant people and events that shaped the region. After the tour, participants will be welcomed to shop and support local black-owned businesses.

February 25, 2024
Central Market Austin, North Lamar

For a culinary treat, this is another ‘must-do’ within all the Black History Month events in Austin.  Enjoy a delicious brunch with recipes created by prominent Black Chefs and Cookbook Authors – made by yours truly!  At this interactive event, you will be coached on creating a healthy feast of “silky eggs, creamy grits, winter salad, gluten-free corn muffins and an incredible cinnamon roll.”

February 25, 2024
Kid’s Day at Carver Museum

Spend the afternoon learning about Black Heritage at the Carver Museum from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.  The theme for this year is “Black Resistance” and the activities will include arts and crafts and a celebration of African American trailblazers. It’s free for the public, and you need to register for the event.

African America Cultural and Heritage Facility
Throughout the month, the AACHF is another option to learn more about the African American Culture. During February, and throughout the year, the Facility offers arts, business, cultural and entertainment programming that is offered for all ages and interests.  You can also tune into The Pivot – which is a live stream podcast about topics relevant to East Austin.

George Washington Carver Museum, Freedom Plaza
Finally, here’s another spot to include on your list as we celebrate Black History Month in Austin.  Visit the backyard space at the Carver Museum known as “Freedom Plaza.” Within its lovely setting is a “Juneteenth Memorial Sculpture.”  The entire staff at the Museum continues to create a space where the global contributions of all Black people are celebrated.
