Earlier this month we introduced you to some of our favorite trails to bike with our friends and family.  There were so many good ideas from our team at our apartments for rent in Austin that we are continuing our list to get you out and about in the great outdoors!

9th Street BMX Park

Welcome to the ultimate playground for thrill-seekers! Nestled in Duncan Park, the 9th Street BMX Park is a vibrant, hand-crafted BMX wonderland that has been sculpted by passionate volunteers for over 25 years. With jumps big and small, this park caters to riders of all ages and skill levels. It also features a delightful pump track that’s a favorite among little ones, making it the perfect spot for families. If you’re wrangling a crew of riders with varying skills, this park lets you all ride in harmony without the chaos. And once you’re ready for more, hop onto the Shoal Creek Trail, where you can take a scenic ride to the artful Austin Central Public Library or cross over to explore the Hike-and-Bike Trail along Lady Bird Lake.

Southwest Greenway

As you glide north to south on this well-maintained crushed granite trail, prepare to be enchanted by wildflowers and beautiful, restored Texas blackland prairie. Spot the striking “Pollen Grain” sculpture as you ride, and don’t forget to venture into the maze for some playful challenges surrounded by hefty rocks, perfect for enhancing your biking skills! Be sure to visit the butterfly garden and explore the dirt trails running alongside Airport Blvd and Tom Miller streets.

Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park

This sprawling 293-acre park offers a delightful mix of single track trails, paved pathways, and even a pump track—the perfect playground for riders of all skill levels. Don’t worry if you get temporarily lost along the trails; sometimes, that’s where the best adventures begin! For a thrilling ride, park on the west side and trek south until you find the creek—a spot known for its stepping stones (get ready for some splashes!). If you’re more in the mood for a laid-back journey, simply follow the trail north to discover the hidden pump track just beyond the sports fields. Bring your sense of adventure, and who knows what gems you might uncover!

Hamilton Greenbelt

For beginners and intermediate mountain bikers, this is your ticket to a thrilling yet manageable ride. Located by the shimmering waters of Lake Austin, this green haven offers paved paths on the Lakeway Boulevard Hike and Bike Trail. Ready for a challenge? Dive into the rugged terrains along the Greenbelt that’ll test your skills while treating you to stunning views of the lake. Make sure to stop for a breather under the cool shade, snap a few pictures of the beautiful waterfalls, and enjoy the serene ambiance. A perfect blend of relaxation and excitement!

Brushy Creek Regional Trail

If you crave variety, then the Brushy Creek Regional Trail is calling your name! Spanning 6.75 miles, this gem near Cedar Park and Round Rock offers you the best of both worlds: smooth, flat paved routes perfect for a leisurely ride, with the thrilling option to branch off onto more challenging mountain bike trails nearby. Revel in the natural beauty that surrounds you—parks, creek access, and breathtaking views. Whether you’re looking to unwind or seek out a fresh adventure, Brushy Creek is your canvas for fun in the great outdoors.

Grab your bike and hit the trails—it’s time to make some unforgettable memories this summer in Austin!

If you're someone who enjoys the thrill of biking through scenic trails and vibrant parks, Austin, Texas has a plethora of amazing spots just waiting for you to explore. With stunning views and a variety of trails suitable for all skill levels, this city offers mountain biking experiences that are second to none. We recently gathered insights from our team at our apartments for rent in Austin.  As there are so many options, watch later this month for more of the best mountain biking trails in Austin!

McKinney Falls State Park

Just a short drive—about 13 miles from the state capitol—McKinney Falls feels like a peaceful escape. Here, you can swim, picnic, hike, camp, fish, and soak in nature. The paved Onion Creek Hike & Bike Trail stretches for 2.8 miles with rolling twists and turns, while options like the Homestead Trail offer off-road excitement. The park has stunning highlights, including two waterfall areas and a famous “Old Baldy” cypress tree that’s over 500 years old.

Nichols Park

Nestled in a quiet area, Dick Nichols Park offers a laid-back atmosphere filled with hidden gems. Its wide paved loop of around 1 mile is perfect for a leisurely ride, and it’s seldom crowded. In addition to the loop, there’s a network of short, smooth, packed dirt single-track trails that are enjoyable for both experienced riders and those with balance bikes. Besides biking, the park features a recently updated playground and a summer-only pool.

C Metropolitan Park

This park runs along part of Slaughter Creek, just south of Slaughter Lane. While it's known for its soccer fields, you’ll also find a playground, disc golf course, and volleyball courts. A wide, crushed granite trail of about 1.4 miles loops around the park’s western section, offering a peaceful ride. Be sure to explore the single track trails near the creek, especially on the eastern side where you can connect to the Violet Crown Trail or the back of the Veloway.

Slaughter Creek Trail

This trail is for those who enjoy a challenge! Expect rock gardens and long climbs, and be prepared to push your bike in some sections. The overall loop is about five miles with options to cut it down if needed. While it's not too far from the city, it feels quite remote. A new kids' loop will soon be marked for smaller adventurers.

Barton Creek Greenbelt

For a blend of adventure and natural beauty, the Barton Creek Greenbelt offers over 12 miles of trails, including 7.8 miles designated for biking and hiking. Here, you can traverse scenic paths, enjoy swimming holes, and navigate rugged terrain known for its limestone cliffs. The greenbelt is also home to several endangered species, like the Golden Cheeked Warbler and Barton Springs Salamander, making it a fascinating spot for nature lovers.

Lady Bird Lake

A favorite among locals, the Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake features 10 miles of mostly crushed granite paths. You can create your ideal route, taking in views of downtown skyscrapers, iconic bridges, Zilker Park, and more. A highlight is the 1.1-mile paved Boardwalk that offers breathtaking vistas. In summer, take a break at the splash pad at Butler Shores—perfect for beginners and seasoned bikers alike.

Stay tuned for more exciting trails and parks in our next blog! Happy biking!

Cool-off Inside at Austin’s Cinemas & Museums

If you are a fan of independent or global films, this is your spot to take in a flick with some popcorn in hand.  There are several locations that our staff frequent throughout the hot summer months. Among the list:

History buff or not, if you have never visited one or more of our cherished museums, perhaps this summer is the time to do so.  It’s always cool inside, and what you will learn is even more inviting.  Check these out:

Neill-Cochran House Museum – Take a self-guided tour through Austin's history. The museum showcases the city's cultural, economic, and architectural transformation from 1855 to the present day.

Mexic-Arte Museum – If you enjoy tradition, arts and culture, this one’s for you.  Within the Mexic-Arte Museum, you can stroll for hours through the galleries filled with Latino, Latin, Mexican, and American artwork. Be sure to also see Fifth Street's expansive and culturally colorful exterior mural.

Texas State Capitol—Although this is not a museum per se, its impressive dome contains a lot of history. Whether you choose a guided tour or not, be sure to make the time to walk through history or see your local leaders in action. Depending on the day, you may have access to the Chambers and Courtrooms, and be sure to ask for access to the subterranean vault; we assure you it will be nice and cool within this hidden space!

Bullock Texas State History Museum – From its extensive exhibits to feature films and entertainment off Broadway, the complex offers plenty of affordable things to do and see in Austin.  By the way, here’s a real local’s tip: spend some time in the gift shop; the selections are impressive and ideal for some more early holiday shopping!

University of Texas at Austin – Home to the largest selection of museums in Austin, the University offers a full day of exploration.  Our favorite is the Texas Science & Natural History Museum.  Other exemplary facilities that overflow with education are the LBJ Presidential Library, Harry Ransome Center and the Blanton Museum of Art.
