Celebrating Cinco de Mayo in Austin is a lively blend of culture, music, and unforgettable flavors. Known for its creative spirit and vibrant food scene, Austin transforms the holiday into a citywide fiesta filled with events that range from family-friendly festivals to energetic nightlife.

From your front door at Le Montreaux apartments to rent or lease to the heartbeat of downtown Austin, there are bars and restaurants hosting themed parties, live music, and drink specials throughout the day and night.

Areas like Rainey Street Historic District and Sixth Street are especially popular, offering everything from rooftop margaritas to packed dance floors with DJs and Latin music. Expect a high-energy atmosphere where locals and visitors come together to celebrate.

For a more cultural experience, head to Zilker Park or Republic Square, where festivals often feature live mariachi bands, folklórico dancers, and artisan vendors. These events are perfect for families or anyone looking to enjoy the deeper roots of the holiday while still soaking up Austin’s signature fun. Food trucks and pop-up vendors serve authentic Mexican cuisine, making it easy to sample tacos, tamales, and street corn as you explore.

Food is a major highlight of Cinco de Mayo in Austin. The city’s renowned Tex-Mex and Mexican restaurants pull out all the stops with special menus and festive drinks.

Spots like Matt's El Rancho and Fonda San Miguel are two of our local favorites, known for their bold flavors and celebratory atmospheres. Whether you’re sipping handcrafted margaritas or digging into enchiladas, the dining experience becomes part of the celebration itself.

If you’re looking for something uniquely Austin, explore the South Congress area. South Congress Avenue (SoCo) offers a more eclectic vibe, with live music spilling out of venues, street performers, and boutique shops adding to the festive energy.

Right here at LeMontreaux apartments for rent or lease in Austin, Texas, we look forward to BBQing by the pool, picnics at our beautiful parks, and heading out to experience some of our favorite spring events in Austin.  Earlier this month, we posted a blog about some of the top events for families to enjoy in Austin.  This time, we’re offering more ideas about the things to do outdoors in Austin with springtime in full swing!

To ensure you enjoy spring in Austin, we put together some ideas we think you will enjoy with your friends and family in tow. Need more ideas? Never hesitate to stop by our office for some local advice and insight!

April is peak wildflower season in Central Texas and there are plenty of places to pack a picnic and pause to take a picture or two.

First, hit one of our many Farmer’s Markets that always promise fresh produce, local honey, and specialty breads and baked goods. Then, head to Lady Bird Lake or Zilker Park – the latter of which is ideal for the kiddos with a ride on the Zilker Zephyr Miniature Train.

The weather is also ideal for kayaking or paddle boarding or taking your first dip in one of our many lakes and streams that work their way through Austin’s parks and countrysides.  Speaking of which, for a bit of elevation, take a short hike up Mount Bonnell. It’s one of the highest points in Austin with sweeping views of the Colorado River.  We save this hike for after work to take in the sunsets!

If you have company coming in for Spring Break or just to visit, April is packed with events. Refer back to our earlier blog this month for a full list – then be sure not to miss our favorites: The iconic ABC Kite Fest fills the sky with colorful kites and family-friendly fun. Meanwhile, the Old Settler’s Music Festival brings together bluegrass, folk, and Americana fans for a multi-day celebration.

Beyond festivals, live music spills out from patios, breweries, and iconic venues all over town. Whether it’s an afternoon acoustic set or a lively evening show, there’s always something to enjoy while dining al’ fresco in Austin! Grab tacos from a local food truck, enjoy slow-smoked barbecue, or sip craft cocktails on a rooftop overlooking downtown. We always recommend a stroll down South Congress Avenue that offers a mix of shopping, street eats, and quirky local charm.

From wildflower walks and waterfront adventures to live music and incredible food, April in Austin delivers something for everyone. It’s where you can spend the morning outdoors, the afternoon exploring, and the evening listening to live music under the stars—and that’s what makes living at LeMontreaux community apartments for lease such a perfect place to call “home sweet home!”

As we wait for winter to arrive in Texas, this is a great moment to pause and thank all our residents at Le Montreaux apartments in Austin for being such great neighbors!

We’re also grateful for all the perks of living in such a diverse and dynamic city. As the seasons change, it’s the perfect time to share what makes our city so special.

May you find your own treasures to add to this list.

The Great Outdoors

Even with nearly a million people calling Austin home, it’s easy to find your own spot to relax anywhere in our 274 square miles.

With plenty of sunshine and an average temperature of 68 degrees, Austin offers more reasons to get outside than most places.

If you enjoy hiking or biking, Austin has miles of trails for every skill level. We shared our favorite family-friendly biking trails in June 2025, and hikers can enjoy the outdoors all year. Check out our full list for more ideas.

If you love the water, Austin is full of ways to have fun year-round. From floating down rivers to swimming in lakes and ponds, there’s always something to enjoy.

Golf enthusiasts LOVE Austin for their award-winning golf courses. With fall offering some of the best weather to hit the links, there are so many options to tee it high and let if fly. Over the years, we have posted our list of the best golf courses in Austin, which are a short drive from our apartment community at Juniper Springs.

National Parks

Austin is home to some truly beautiful national parks. With amazing views, canyons, deserts, and hills, these parks are perfect for a staycation or a quick getaway.

If you’re planning a trip this year, it’s a good idea to book early since many parks limit visitors. For ideas, check out this article on the '7 Amazing National Parks Near Austin.'

Too busy to read the whole story? Click into their top picks right here:

Amistad National Park

Big Bend National Park

Big Thicket National Park

Guadalupe National Park

Lyndon B. Johnson National Park

Padre Island National Seashore

Palo Alto National Park

Earlier this month we shared a few of our favorite things to do in the fall in Austin. Today, we’re continuing our list and encouraging you to get out and about in Austin to support our local community.

Prepare for Pumpkin Season!

Yes, it’s that time of the year when Pumpkins start popping up on the doorsteps at LeMontreaux apartments in Austin, and throughout our festive city.  Make your plans now to head on over to Sweet Berry Farm (in Maple Falls) then put Georgetown’s Sweet Eats and Springs Ranch on your list as well.  Sip on some cider, enjoy the homemade treats and get a head-start on your holiday shopping list, too!

Ride into the Spectacular Colors of Fall

Soon, the Texas Hill Country will be overflowing with the colors of the fall season. And as soon as those temperatures cool off, it’s the perfect spot to head into the hills on horseback. Here are two of the best guided trail ride companies that we recommend.

Texas Trail Rides: For a traditional ride throughout the ranch with more adventurous options, Texas Trail Rides welcomes the novice to the most advanced. Looking for something different to do for that next birthday or bachelor party? Check out what they call the “ultimate Texas experience” that includes skeet shooting, ax throwing and trick roping, too!

Maverick Horseback Riding: Just one click into their website sets the tone with a quote from Winston S. Churchill: “There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.” They continue to describe their approach to sharing their horses with humans. “Guests who seek out Maverick’s horsemanship experience love that we offer low-key, relaxing trail rides AND engaging, challenging and highly rewarding horsemanship experiences."

Gather the family around a cozy campfire and enjoy the beauty of nature with an overnight camping trip.

Plan a Fall Stay-cation

Weekends are made for wanderers and Auditorium Shores is a super spot to get away for a Stay-cation in Austin. What to pack? Take it all! This dog-friendly park is well-planned with volleyball and basketball courts and fields to toss the ball for Fido or just a friendly game on the turf. And there’s plenty of water sport opportunities, so take the kayak, canoe, bring your boat and don’t forget the fishing gear.

Get Wet, and Wild!

With temperatures still in the 90s, having fun on the water is always on our “things to do with our family" in Austin. Krause Springs is one of the best spots to go swimming near Austin as the natural springs keep the pools full year-round regardless of drought. You never have to worry about water levels like many other Austin swimming holes. The property is a sight to be seen with 32 springs, camping grounds, and even a butterfly garden.

Get Ready For Halloween

Forget the stress and step out to see the enormous selection of costume shops in Austin through this list below. If you would rather do something less traditional, keep reading – we have more ideas that follow this list.

Party City – Sunset Valley Village

Party City – Balcones Woods

Spirit Halloween

If you’re feeling a little more daring, hit the thrift or consignment shops to get your creative juices flowing.

Lucy in the Skies with Diamonds

The Bazaar

Blue Velvet

Coco Coquette

Goodwill
